| Browse through more than 110 fiction and non-fiction books. |
In
celebration of Women’s History Month, Musselman Library's newest main floor
book display is “The Women of Downton Abbey.” More than 110 titles
reflect on women’s lives during the time period in Britain in which Downton Abbey is
set. It considers the major events and political, economic and social issues
affecting women both up and down the stairs. There are also titles in fiction
and memoirs, and books filled with wonderful photographs of England’s country
houses.
Here are
just some of the topics: The Edwardian era, World War I, the Titanic, The
Spanish Influenza, the Bloomsbury Group, Britian’s class structure, the
Suffrage Movement, Irish Resistance, the Jazz Age. Some famous names include:
Vita Sackville-West, Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell, Beatriz Potter, Nurse
Edith Cavell, the Mitfords, Lady Randolph Churchill (Jennie Jerome) and
more.
